The idea behind French Connection wines was to allow the Rhône-style wines of Calais Winery to have a place of their own. When this beautiful property became available, Ben, Victoria, Sheri & Pat toasted at the property on a chilly December day in 2018, and French Connection Wines came to life! The rest is history.
We source our fruit from the Texas High Plains AVA as well as higher elevation sites in the mountains of West Texas. These locations provide warm sunny days with cooler nights. This diurnal shift extends the growing season, allowing the opportunity for grapes to fully ripen. Of course, weather likes to have its way, so every vintage has its challenges.
Our wines are made from grape varieties typically grown in the Rhône Valley, which can be grown successfully in Texas. Varieties we choose for winemaking include Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Counoise, Cinsault, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier, Picpoul Blanc and others. We keep a close eye on our blocks to make picking decisions at the best possible time.
